Arts organisation ‘a space’, which organises the ArtVaults project, has always aimed to promote emerging artists. The ‘New Creators’ student art competition has been introduced for the first time this year to help develop a new generation of artistic talent.
Entries were invited from school years 10 to 13 and higher education students, in the Southampton postcode area. Some highly imaginative ideas were submitted and the winners were selected because their designs connected so well with the vaults’ architecture and history.
New Creators has been funded by Arts & Business and Lyndhurst-based company INEOS.

New Creators is a unique opportunity for student artists to create and exhibit artwork alongside professional practising artists.
The winning students are developing new pieces of work with creative support and mentoring from Southampton–based artist Sarah Misselbrook, who exhibited at ArtVaults Season 2.
Higher Education category winners Sarah Tyler and Alyce Taylor are exhibiting at Quilters Vault while School category winners Lewis Jones and Abigail Davis from Hounsdown School, Totton, are exhibiting in Castle Vault.
